Parlex specializes in the design and manufacture of both single-sided and double-sided etched copper flexible printed circuits (FPCs) for applications in automobiles, computers, office equipment, telecommunication equipment, measurement devices, industrial controls and a wide range of consumer electronics.
A single-sided flexible circuit has an etched conductor pattern (usually copper) on one side of a dielectric basefilm. A dielectric covering, such as soldermask or coverlayer, is usually applied to protect the conductors and to dictate component placement areas. Stiffeners or backers can also be added to create selective rigid sections. Single sided circuits are generally preferred for applications which require repeated flexing. Circuits can be produced with many different options and coatings; see our manufacturing capabilities for a list of options.
A double-sided flexible circuit has a single etched conductive pattern on two sides of a dielectric basefilm. Electrical conductivity from side to side is achieved through plated through holes. A dielectric covering, such as soldermask or coverlayer, is usually applied to both sides to protect the conductors and to dictate component placement areas. Stiffeners or backers can also be added to create selective rigid sections. Circuits can be produced with many different options and coatings; see our manufacturing capabilities for a list of options.
In addition to etched FPC, Parlex also offers environmentally friendly PALFlex® FPC, SMART TAPE® Roll-to-Roll Additive Copper FPC for high speed processing as well as Polymer Thick Film (PTF) options. Your Parlex representative can help you choose the technology that’s just right for you!
