RoHS Information
The European Union (EU) issued Directive 2002/95/EC on the Restriction of certain Hazardous Substances (RoHS) that applies to most electrical and electronic equipment placed on the market after July 1, 2006. The directive requires elimination or limited use of mercury, cadmium, lead, hexavalent chromium, polybrominated biphenyls (PBB), and polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDE) in electronic equipment.
On April 1, 2008, The European Court of Justice (ECJ) ruled that procedural errors, and not a lack of scientific support or safety data, has led to the elimination of the exemption for DECA-BDE, a flame retardant used in the manufacture of Parlex FFC. To maintain Parlex compliance to the RoHS directive, all insulation containing DECA-BDE will be discontinued as of June 30, 2008 for all RoHS compliant applications. Parlex has had a qualified RoHS compliant DECA-BDE-free insulation in use for customers who have requested DECA-BDE-free materials for specific applications since 2006. We will now be switching to this DECA-BDE-free qualified material for all RoHS-compliant applications.
